Maintaining the fluids of your vehicle has many benefits, one of them being a smooth operation of your car! There are a couple essential fluids for different systems of the vehicle such as the engine, transmission, brake system etc..Taking care of the fluids and not letting it drop below the fill line is important.
Like many car systems, if not well taken care of, the fluids can dry out and will cause a lot more issues. In this article we will cover the essential car fluids that you should pay attention to and maintain so your car keeps running smoothly.
Motor Oil:
The most important fluid is the motor oil, this fluid is used to lubricate the moving parts of your vehicle’s engine and also acts as a cooler to prevent high heat and reduces friction which helps the engine operation from damaging components of your car such as the pistons, valves etc..
Coolant Fluid:
The coolant fluid also known as antifreeze helps your car from overheating. If your vehicle overheats, it would damage a head gasket which will allow the water and oil to mix. If the two mix together, your engine will be ruined. If your coolant has an oily surface, take your car to your mechanic immediately to prevent internal leakage. It’s important to keep an eye on it and make sure everything’s in order.
Brake Fluid:
This fluid is especially vital for your car and here’s why. Most of us use the brake pedal often, some of us like the pedal a little too much. When a driver presses the brake pedal, they activate a system that cause the friction that is required to stop the car. If the brake fluid leaks, the car’s capacity to stop is compromised, and that is a major safety issue. It is crucial to have it working properly.
Power Steering Fluid:
Depending on your vehicle, if it has either a hydraulic, electric, of hybrid system, this fluid helps with the ability to steer your car safely. This is a very important fluid to maintain! We wrote a more in depth article about this specific fluid, feel free to read more here.
Transmission Fluid:
The transmission fluid is an important fluid, this fluid lubricates and cools the transmission to make sure that the vehicle’s internal gears and components work smoothly.
Windshield Wiper Fluid:
This fluid won’t break or make your car stop if you run out, but it will give you a lot for visibility if in bad weather or can’t see from dirt on the windshield. The windshield wiper fluid is essentially liquid soap that is the easiest one to maintain, but is essential for your safety.
Battery Fluid:
This applies to drivers who have a vehicle with battery. This fluid naturally evaporates so it’s good to regularly check on it and make sure the electrolyte levels aren’t low. You could experience low levels due to overcharging the battery. Now there are maintenance free batteries out there, but there are still some that can and should be inspected.
It’s essential to make the time and make sure everything is in order. Most people use their car on a daily basis, maintaining these fluids will prolong the life of the engine and vehicle itself. Enjoy your car and know that you and your family are safe!
