Summers can get really busy with work and some of us don’t have much time off to take a tropical vacation, far far away. Well don’t you worry, we got you covered. For others who are able to take vacations away but would also like to have some awesome local getaway options. We also got you covered! We already wrote about one amazing destination in Ontario called Flowerpot Island and its surroundings. Today we’ll be talking about a destination I’m very excited about.
Canada’s Rarest Plants and Animals!
We are of course talking about Point Pelee National Park, one of the most breathtaking destinations in Ontario. This stunning destination lies on the 42nd parallel, the same latitude as Barcelona, Rome and Northern California. That means warmer weather, compared to the typical Canadian temperatures. Because of its mild southerly climate, you can find some of Canada’s rarest plants and animals! That alone makes me so excited to drive there in a heartbeat! Which by the way, is only 4 hours away from Toronto. Also, if you enjoy bird watching, this location is also the main “go-to” place for that. Due to bird watching being so popular, Point Peele National Park holds an annual bird festival and hikes dedicated specifically to bird watching. This specific festival and hikes are typically scheduled around May, so this can be something you can plan ahead for next spring.
Soak up the sun with some delicious comfort food!
Point Pelee has a ton of activities to make your getaway worth while. Activities such as canoeing, hiking or soaking up the sun at the beach. There’s also a charming and very very cute small town surrounding Point Pelee called Leamington. Leamington also provides warmer climate, it’s actually known as the “sun parlour”. This town has a great selection of comfort food such as burgers, fries, seafood, TACO’S, ice cream and more.
Ferry ride to Winery
There’s more, there’s a winery! The Peele Island Winery offers very affordable wine tours that include wine tasting. Adults costs $5, seniors $4 and everyone under 19 is free. This is a very family friendly winery due to its Pavilion which offers delicious food. We are most excited about their stone oven pizza! For this specific activity, you will need to take the ferry to Peele island. Make sure to check all schedules ahead of time so your trip goes smoothly.
We hope you enjoyed this article and we hope you will make the most out of this summer. Whatever that means for you and your schedule. If taking one to two road trips is ideal, then go for it! Also don’t forget to check out our other article part of this series. It’s all about the stunning Flowerpot island and it’s surroundings. Spoiler alert: It’s surrounded by turquoise water!! Make sure you stay tuned for more articles just like this one, this series isn’t over.
