After a long lonnnng winter, we are all craving the sun more than ever! If you don’t have time or budget to afford a tropical destination, here’s some of our top 4 road trip destinations that are worth visiting this summer! The best part is, all four locations are located in Ontario, which means you could easily visit all of them before winter time.
Flowerpot Island
Let’s start with the absolutely stunning and scenic location of Flowerpot Island and Bruce Peninsula National Park. The two are only 31 minutes drive apart, plus a 30 minutes boat ride to access the flowerpot island. Flowerpot island is a MUST see, for one, this island has clear turquoise water. I think that’s enough said to motivated anyone for visiting the island, it feels and looks like you are far far away from Ontario. You actually won’t believe this place is part of Ontario, the clear blue water looks exactly like the pictures you would find online. It is a icy swim but very relaxing one, so don’t forget your swimwear and necessities. When you first get to the island, you’ll need to take a boat ride. Do bring a few layers of clothes, sometimes the boat ride can get chilly.
This island is part of “Fathom Five National Marine Park”. It’s actually the first national marine park in Canada! You’ll enjoy sights such as shipwrecks, cliffs, caves and lighthouses. You can even enjoy scuba diving for a closer look, in fact, this location is known as the “shipwreck diving capital of Canada”. There’s also beautiful hiking trails and boardwalks, comfortable shoes are a must to really enjoy all activities. If you are a fan of geology, you’ll enjoy observing the unique rock formations on the island. We recommend a minimum of a full day for the island alone, due to it’s gorgeous sights and activities.
To pack with you: Comfortable shoes, layers of clothes for chilly boat ride, swimwear and necessities.
Peninsula National Park
The Peninsula National Park is also breathtaking! It provides stunning views, crystal blue water and the most beautiful terrain. Enjoy hiking while taking some stunning photographs, we recommend the “Cyprus Lake Grotto” hikes. It is about 20 to 25 minutes hikes, again, you won’t believe this place exists in Ontario. This national park has gorgeous land spaces that is completely rejuvenating. It is a must for this summer!
If you are planning on visiting Peninsula National Park & Flowerpot Island, we definitely recommend staying a minimum of two days. Both locations can be a full day of activities and relaxation by the water. If you are able to take a few days off for vacation, they will definitely be worth it. Especially if you enjoy most activities listed above such as hiking, photography, exploring, scuba dive and more! We hope you enjoyed the start of the Ontario road trip series, more articles to come soon with more fun places to visit!
