A few summers ago, we drove through the Canadian Rockies, it was a beautiful drive filled with stunning sceneries! From stunning mountains to blue lakes, it’s definitely one of the most beautiful drives in Canada. As wonderful as it was, we were very high up. Hence the stunning views. To put it in perspective, the highest elevation point on the Trans-Canada HWY is 5390 feet. At some point throughout our drive, I started thinking about the brakes of the car and how bad it would be if they gave out.
If you’re familiar with the Canadian Rockies, you’ll know there are many uphill and downhill roads. I then remembered that brakes can’t just give out, there are many warning signs that happen before anything gives out. I also remembered we did a routine brake check before heading out, which put my mind at ease and enjoy the ride. In this article we’ll be talking about how important it is to get a routine brake checks, to ensure your safety on the road!
Clear warning signs that something is wrong with your brakes
Surprisingly, some warning signs that indicate something is wrong with a vehicle won’t appear on the dashboard. No problem, because there are many ways to know about these warning signs by paying attention while driving. For instance, if you feel the brake pedal vibrate, the brakes continuously squeaking, squealing, or grinding…You’ll want to get your brakes checked immediately.
Brake longevity
Now if your brakes are squealing or the brake pedal is vibrating, let’s talk about how you can make the most out of your brakes and keep them in good shape for a long time. First things first, your driving style. If you tend to slam your brakes and have a more aggressive driving approach, your breaks will get worn out faster. You’ll end up wearing out your brakes quicker and put unnecessary strain on them. Your driving style will not only help the longevity of the brake system, it will also be beneficial for your vehicle’s longevity.
Never ever ignore warning signs
Some components of the brake system may wear out faster, such as the brake pads rather than the rotor. This is why it’s important to prioritize a regular checks on the brake system.
