Driving habits develop over the years and sometimes we forget that they’re a bad idea! Here is a friendly reminder of habits we should all avoid in order to stay safe on the road.
Turn on your lights
When bad weather turns up, it’s very important to be visible to other drivers. Especially if the car is a neutral colours like silver or grey. Typically, all vehicles have the standard daytime lights on. But most cars don’t have the rear lights on. Remember to check your lights before leaving your location.
No feet up!
It’s essential to make sure passengers do not ride with their feet up the dashboard! This is extremely dangerous if in a car crash. It could be deadly or leaving the passenger in really bad shape and not being able to walk well again.
Distractions
Avoid distractions such as texting and driving or multi-tasking. Staying focused on the road is key to be safe, because at the end of the day, you’re not only depending on your driving skills. Being focused ensures you can avoid other bad drivers on the road and keep you and your family safe.
Tailgating
Keeping a safe distance between the car ahead is key for safe driving. It ensures you and your passengers are safe and gives you enough reaction time if needed. Tailgating is a common factor in many accidents and collisions, so remember to keep calm and keep a safe distance.
Bad Tires
Many car safety features are built to help when tires go rogue and lose their grip on the road. From your seat belts to anti lock brakes, these features are essential to keep you safe. When tires are too old or used, they tend to have a weaker tread, cracks or bulges that puts the driver at risk. We recommend calling us for an appointment for a routine maintenance, we have a great team that will be able to help out!
Pets on the loose
We’ve seen many drive with their pets on their lap, which can get very dangerous. We recommend going the safe route and buying a wide strap pet harness, their really easy to find online or your local pet store. These straps aren’t dangerous and they definitely do not buckle your pet by the collar (that’s a big no no). Getting a strap ensures you avoid situations like your puppy running into traffic when you open the door.
